Second Half Surge Propels Storm to 4-0 Win Over Malone

PAINESVILLE, Ohio — The Lake Erie men's soccer team hosted the Malone University Pioneers tonight in another Great Midwest matchup. The Storm would come away with a convincing 4-0 win and they now improve to 3-0-4 on the season and 3-0 in conference play.

Game Recap

For the past six seasons, Lake Erie has had Malone's number, winning nine straight and averaging 3.9 goals per game during that span.

The Storm struggled to get a rhythm early on and the game remained scoreless in the first half. After a few halftime adjustments though, they quickly took full control.

Their first break came in the the 51st minute when Ido Omaysi sent a ball to Nicolas Vagujhelyi but he was tripped up and the ball landed near Dario Stadler who reacted perfectly and sent the ball into the back of the net for the lead.

In the 66th minute, Lake Erie extended their lead off a nice pass from Gabriele Argint to Lucas Howe who scored on a header.

From there, the wheels fell off for the Pioneers. A foul by them led to a penalty kick for the Storm and they scored again, this time by Luka Bekovic. 10 minutes later, Glory Hser muscled out his first collegiate goal and gave Lake Erie a 4-0 lead which they would hold until the final buzzer.

The Storm out-shot Malone 15-5 in the game and goalkeeper David Ruiz Ospina earned his G-MAC-best fourth shutout of the season after recording three saves in the game.

The Matchup

Lake Erie now extends their win streak against Malone to ten games. Their last loss came on October 18, 2018 on the road. All-time, they own a 17-6-1 record.

Looking Ahead

The Storm will be back in action on Saturday, September 27th on the road to face the 2024 G-MAC regular season champions, Tiffin. The game is set for a 2 p.m. start.
