PAINESVILLE, Ohio -- The Lake Erie football team hosted the University of Findlay Oilers this afternoon for their first Great Midwest competition of the season. Although the first half was a close contest, the second half was a different story and the Storm would fall 33-3.
Game Recap
It didn't take long for the game to get exciting as the Storm capitalized on an Oiler fumble on the first offensive play of the game.
Conner Hopson would recover Findlay's fumble and the Storm offense took over at the UF48.
The offense wasn't able to capitalize on the early turnover but the defense held strong during Findlay's next offensive series, stopping them at the LEC34 after stifling their fourth down attempt.
The Storm offense bounced back to put together a 12 play, 43 yard drive which ended in a successful 37-yard field goal by
Enrique Olmos, giving them a 3-0 lead just before the end of the first quarter.
On their second offensive drive of the quarter, Findlay would take a 7-3 lead and extend that lead to 10-3 just before the end of the first half, keeping the Storm well within striking distance with a half of football to play.
It was an uneventful start to the third quarter but a muffed punt return by the Storm allowed Findlay to hop on the ball in the end zone to extend their lead to 17-3.
From there, the Oilers took control and put up 16 points in the fourth quarter and the game ended with a 33-3 final.
While the offense wasn't able to find a groove, the defense put together some impressive numbers. They totaled nine tackles for loss, three sacks, a forced fumble, a fumble recovery, and an interception.
Quinterrius Jemison led the defense by totaling five tackles and two tackles for loss.
