PAINESVILLE, Ohio -- The Lake Erie football team hosted the Tiffin University Dragons today for another Great Midwest competition. It was an incredibly close contest and the Storm gave Tiffin a ride during homecoming weekend but the game would end with a tight 27-14 loss.
Game Recap
Tiffin's offense got started early, converting their first drive of the game for seven points. After that, the Storm defense stepped up big, shutting Tiffin out until roughly two minutes left in the second quarter when the Dragons extended their lead to 14-0 and took that lead into the second half.
That lead wouldn't take long for the Storm to cut into as they drove 75 yards on 10 plays to start the second half and score on a 31-yard run by
Julian Means-Flewellen.
The Dragons extended their lead to 17-7 on a 39-yard field goal during the next drive but the Storm responded in a huge way with an 83-yard touchdown pass from
Wrentie Martin to
Makhi Jackson to trim Tiffin's lead to just 17-14.
In the fourth, Tiffin successfully converted a 23-yard field goal to take a 20-14 lead but the Storm would continue to put pressure on the Dragons on both ends of the ball. Unfortunately in the quarter, Tiffin scored once more to take a 27-14 lead and they would hold onto that to win the game.
Jackson would finish the game with five receptions for 139 yards, and on defense
Kemari Ward led the team with 14 tackles while
Landon Drennan impressed by totaling six tackles with one sack and 1.5 tackles-for-loss.
Looking Ahead
The Storm will hit the road for the first time this season over the next two weeks, starting with a matchup against Thomas More on Saturday, October 4th followed by Northwood on Saturday, October 11th.
