SALEM, West Virginia -- The Lake Erie men's soccer team competed in their first road game of the season today against the Salem University Tigers. It was another close contest for the Storm and they finished with a 1-1 draw, marking a program-record third consecutive tie.

The Storm played stellar defense to begin their first road contest of the season, holding Salem to just two shots in the half. On the offensive side of things, the Storm got off six shots themselves but were unable to put one through, resulting in a 0-0 tie at the half.
In the 61st minute,
Angel Murillo connected with
Lucas Howe for the Storm's first goal of the game and Howe's second of the season.
The Lake Erie defense held strong for the next 20 minutes, but the Tigers capitalized on a Storm miscue in the 84th minute, tying the game at 1-1 which would hold through the end of regulation.
In the half, both teams recorded six shots, giving Lake Erie a 12-8 advantage through all 90 minutes.
Dario Stadler led the team with four shots of his own while Howe (2),
Veljko Radovanovic (2)
Benjamin Lerida (2),
Linus Oestlund (1), and Murillo (1) accounted for the remaining shots.
Goalkeeper David Ruiz Opsina grabbed two saves while playing all 90 minutes in goal.
The Matchup
Today's match marked the first time the two programs have faced each other since 2018, head coach
Louie Rolko's second season. That game also ended with a 1-1 tie. Overall, the Storm are 2-1-3 all-time against the Tigers. Their last win came on October 19, 2011 when they came out on top 4-0.
Looking Ahead
Lake Erie will be back in action on Sunday, September 14 at home against Northern Michigan at 1 p.m. to finish up non-conference play before beginning G-MAC competition on Thursday, September 18 at home against Kentucky Wesleyan.
