Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Women's Basketball Falls in Columbus

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- The Lake Erie women's basketball team traveled to face the Ohio Dominican Panthers tonight in another Great Midwest matchup. The Storm were unable to keep pace with the Panthers and they would fall 69-52 on the road.

Game Recap

The game began with Ohio Dominican setting the tone, outscoring Lake Erie 20-13 in the opening quarter. Their defensive pressure led to key fast-break points, but the Storm remained aggressive, creating good scoring opportunities despite struggling to convert on some early attempts.

The Panthers continued their offensive rhythm in the second quarter, outscoring Lake Erie again to take a 39-21 lead into halftime. Despite the deficit, Lake Erie Storm showed flashes of strong play, moving the ball well and working to adjust defensively against the Panthers' attack.

Coming out of the locker room, Lake Erie Storm played with renewed energy, putting up an 11-point third quarter and tightening their defense. Though Ohio Dominican Panthers answered with 14 points of their own, the Storm's ability to slow the tempo and force tougher shots was a testament to their perseverance.

Lake Erie Storm saved their best offensive stretch for the final quarter, scoring 20 points and demonstrating their ability to compete at a high level. However, Ohio Dominican Panthers remained composed, adding 16 points of their own and making key plays to close out the game.

Grace Lyon led the way with an impressive 21 points on 6-for-11 shooting (54.5%) including 1-for-1 from deep, and 8-for-12 (66.7%) from the charity stripe. Lilee Carlson was also effective for the Storm, scoring 12 points on 4-of-5 shooting (80%) with one three-pointer and four free throws made.

The Matchup

With the loss, the Storm drop both games of the 2024-25 season and now have a four-game losing streak against the rebuilding Panthers.

Looking Ahead

Lake Erie will be back in action on Thursday, February 6th at 5:30 p.m. against Cedarville at home before facing the Yellow Jackets again on Thursday, February 13th on the road.
