Storm Hang With Northwood in Home Contest

PAINESVILLE, Ohio -- The Lake Erie women's basketball team hosted the Northwood Timberwolves tonight for another Great Midwest matchup. The Storm gave Northwood  a scare early on but ultimately the Timberwolves rallied back and Lake Erie would fall, 72-58.

Game Recap

The game started with Lake Erie coming out hot, jumping to a 22-12 lead after the first quarter. Their offensive execution and defensive pressure had Northwood on its heels, forcing turnovers and capitalizing on fast-break opportunities. The Timberwolves struggled to find a rhythm early, missing shots and giving up second-chance points that allowed the Storm to build momentum.

In the second quarter, Northwood began to settle in, making defensive adjustments and attacking the basket more efficiently. They outscored Lake Erie 21-16 in the period, cutting the Storm's lead to 38-33 at halftime. Northwood's defense tightened, limiting Lake Erie's transition opportunities and forcing tougher shots.

After halftime, Northwood took control. They put up 21 points in the third quarter while holding Lake Erie to just 11, taking the lead and shifting momentum in their favor. The Storm's offense, which had been effective early, struggled with turnovers and difficult shot attempts.

In the fourth quarter, Northwood maintained their lead, outscoring Lake Erie 18-9 to close out the game. Strong defensive pressure and efficient offensive execution helped the Timberwolves secure the 72-58 victory.

Four players scored in double-digits for the Storm on the night. They were led by Anna Ibos (14), Grace Lyon (13), Riley Montagner (12), and Nina Shaffer (10). On the defensive end, Lilee Carlson led the team with five rebounds and Shaffer came up with five steals.

The Matchup

Although the Storm's history with the Timberwolves doesn't go back very far, they now drop their record to 1-5 in their meetings, with their lone win coming before Northwood joined the G-MAC.

Looking Ahead

Lake Erie will conclude their season on Saturday, March 1st for senior night when they host the University of Findlay Oilers. Tip-off is scheduled for 1 p.m.
