PAINESVILLE, Ohio -- The Lake Erie women's basketball team hosted the University of Findlay Oilers today for senior day. The Storm fought hard and gave the Oilers a scare in the first half but would fall 83-64 by the end.Â
Game Recap
The Storm opened the game with intensity, trading early baskets with Findlay. Lake Erie's defense forced several early misses, keeping the Oilers from building an early lead. However, Findlay found their offensive rhythm midway through the first quarter, using efficient shooting and solid ball movement to take a 21-14 lead after the opening period.
In the second quarter, Lake Erie responded well. The Storm tightened up defensively, limiting Findlay's scoring opportunities while creating their own chances on the other end. A strong stretch in the middle of the quarter helped cut into the deficit, and by halftime, Lake Erie trailed just 37-31—well within striking distance.
The game's turning point came in the third quarter when Findlay's offense came alive. The Oilers put together a 26-point quarter, knocking down key shots and capitalizing on second-chance opportunities. While Lake Erie fought hard to keep pace, they managed just 16 points in the frame, allowing Findlay to build a 63-47 lead heading into the final period.
Despite the deficit, the Storm refused to back down in the fourth quarter. They kept attacking on offense, showing their determination to make a late push. Lake Erie nearly matched Findlay's output in the final period (20-17), but the Oilers' lead proved too much to overcome.
The Storm were led on the day by two seniors, Lilee Carlson and Anna Ibos who each had 15 points. Carlson added three steals, three rebounds, and one block to her stat line while Ibos contributed with four rebounds and two assists.
The Storm conclude their season with a record of 4-22 and 1-19 in G-MAC play.
