PAINESVILLE, Ohio -- The Lake Erie women's basketball team hosted the Tiffin University Dragons today for another Great Midwest matchup. In a hard-fought contest, the Storm pulled away late to secure a 72-59 victory over the Dragons. The game remained competitive through three quarters before the Storm used a dominant fourth-quarter surge to seal the win. Lake Erie now improves their record to 4-19 on the season and earn their first G-MAC win.
The game opened with Lake Erie setting the tone early, outscoring the Tiffin Dragons by a 14-9 margin in the first quarter. The Tiffin Dragons struggled to find an offensive rhythm, while the Lake Erie Storm capitalized on key scoring opportunities. The second quarter saw more of the same as the Storm continued to build its lead, posting an 18-8 advantage before halftime. At the break, Lake Erie held a commanding 32-17 lead.
However, the Tiffin Dragons came out strong in the third quarter, showing resilience and finding its offensive groove. They put up 24 points in the period while limiting the Storm to just 14, cutting the deficit significantly. With the score standing at 46-41 entering the final frame, the momentum seemed to be shifting.
Despite the Dragons' efforts, the Storm responded in the fourth quarter with an overpowering offensive display. They poured in 26 points in the final period, shutting down any hopes of a comeback. Tiffin managed 18 points, but it wasn't enough to overcome the early deficit.
With their balanced scoring attack and timely defensive stops, Lake Erie secured the win and proved their ability to close out games under pressure.
Lake Erie had four double-digit scorers in the game, with Grace Lyon (16 points), Lilee Carlson (16 points), Nina Shaffer (11 points), and Riley Montagner (11 points) leading the way. Lyon also had eight rebounds and three steals in the game while Carlson added five rebounds and three assists. Kylie Maxwell had a good statline as well, grabbing a team-high nine rebounds, six assists, and three blocks.

The win now gives the Storm three-straight against the Dragons as they continue to bridge the all-time gap which the Dragons hold with a record of 15-12 against Lake Erie

The Storm will be back in action on Monday, February 24th at 1:00 p.m. on the road against the Kentucky Wesleyan Panthers before finishing up their season with back-to-back home games.
