Lake Erie Shows Resilience in Hard-Fought Battle Against Cedarville

CEDARVILLE, Ohio – The Lake Erie women's basketball team traveled to face the Cedarville Yellow Jackets tonight in another Great Midwest matchup. Lake Erie followed up their close contest against Cedarville last Thursday with another one of their better performances of the season and displayed determination and grit tonight at the Callan Athletic Center, putting forth an inspiring effort in a tough 81-61 contest.

Lake Erie came out fighting, keeping pace with Cedarville early and showing off their offensive versatility. Grace Lyon made her presence felt in the paint, while Lilee Carlson and Kennadi Harris provided key contributions to help the Storm stay within striking distance. By halftime, Lake Erie had kept the game competitive, trailing 40-28 but showing signs of a potential rally.

The Storm showed flashes of brilliance in the third quarter, outscoring Cedarville 19-15 and trimming the deficit. Their energy and defensive pressure kept them within striking distance heading into the final stretch.

Although Cedarville pulled away in the fourth quarter, the Storm never backed down. Their effort and commitment were evident in their hustle plays and the energy they brought to every possession. With continued development and the competitive spirit they showed tonight, Lake Erie is poised to turn close games into victories in the near future.

While Cedarville's offense was in rhythm, Lake Erie's defense worked tirelessly to create stops and force turnovers. The Storm managed 14 steals and applied pressure throughout the game, disrupting Cedarville's ball movement at times and capitalizing on fast-break opportunities.

Lyon was a standout for Lake Erie, leading the team with 21 points and eight rebounds. She was a force inside, battling for every possession and converting key opportunities. Carlson added 13 points, three steals, and three assists, showcasing her playmaking ability and defensive hustle.

Kennadi Harris contributed eight points and five rebounds before fouling out late in the game, demonstrating her toughness on both ends of the floor. Despite facing a relentless Cedarville defense, the Storm continued to fight, creating scoring chances and showing resilience throughout.

Lake Erie will be back in action on Saturday, February 15 on the road against Ursuline College. Tip-off is scheduled for 1 p.m.
