Volleyball Pushes Chargers in Four Set Defeat

PAINESVILLE, Ohio – The Lake Erie volleyball returned home to face the Hillsdale Chargers. The Storm would push the Chargers, taking the third set, but would ultimately fall in four sets. Sadie Nawrocki would post a new career high for blocks in the match.

Set 1: The Chargers would race ahead early, taking an 11-5 lead. The Storm would cut the deficit to 12-9 after kills from Sadie Nawrocki and Jenna Sayles, and a block from Nawrocki and Kennady Wiley. Hillsdale would then push ahead, taking four of the next five points for a 16-10 lead. Lake Erie would bring their deficit to one with the score at 19-18. The Chargers would take three of the next four points for a 22-19 lead. The Storm would tie the set up at 22 with kills from Nawrocki, Jasmine Heyward, and Gabrielle Jones. Hillsdale would take three of the next four points to take the set 25-23.  
 
Set 2: The Chargers continued their momentum from the first set, moving ahead for an early 9-3 lead. Hillsdale would continue to grow their lead to 16-7. The Storm would take five of the next six points, cutting their deficit to 17-12 with kills from Nora Larson and Rori Hanken, a solo block from Nawrocki, and a block from Nawrocki and Hanken. The Chargers would take the next four points to, bringing their lead back to nine at 21-12. Lake Erie would cut their deficit to 22-16 after kills from Heyward and Jones, and a block from Wiley and Nawrocki. Hillsdale would close out the set 25-18.   
 
Set 3: The Chargers would have a mirror image of the first set, racing ahead early 11-5. The Storm would take the next five points, cutting their deficit to 11-10 with a solo block from Wiley, and a block from Wiley and Nawrocki. Lake Erie would tie the set at 16 after a kill from Nawrocki, and solo blocks each from Heyward and Hanken. The Storm would move ahead at 23-21 with kills from Heyward, a solo block from Wiley, and an ace from Sophia McKenzie. Two kills from Heyward would give Lake Erie the set 25-23.  
 
Set 4: After the teams each exchanged 3-0 runs, the Chargers would take the next six points, going ahead 9-3. Hillsdale would grow their lead to 20-7, taking advantage of Storm miscues. The Chargers would take the set comfortably 25-9.

Looking Ahead
 
Lake Erie will have a quick turnaround as they welcome Northwood University on Sunday, November 2nd at 12 p.m.  
 
Northwood is currently 9-10 overall and 4-6 in G-MAC play this season. Recently, the Timberwolves took two straight sets victories on the road at Ursuline and Ashland. In the 2025 preseason poll, Northwood was picked to finish 3rd in the G-MAC North division.
