Volleyball Defeated in Straight Sets Against Cavaliers

PAINESVILLE, Ohio – The Lake Erie volleyball team transformed into the Unicorns to take on the Walsh Cavaliers. The Unicorns would be a point away from the first set, but Walsh would swipe the set and take that momentum to a win in straight sets.

Set 1: The Unicorns would move ahead with an early 5-3 lead after a kill from Nora Larson and Allison Kirch and an ace from Larson. The Cavaliers would then go ahead 7-6. Three straight points with kills from Kirch and Gabrielle Jones would give Lake Erie a 9-7 lead. The Unicorns would push ahead 13-10 after kills from Larson, Kennady Wiley, and Ni'yah Fuggs, three of which were assisted by Jenna Sayles. Walsh would go on a run to take the lead and grow it to 21-16. The Unicorns would grab the momentum to take a 24-23 lead with kills from Kirch, Wiley, and Fuggs, along with a block from Wiley and Fuggs. The Cavaliers would force extra points and steal the set 26-24.  
 
Set 2: The Cavaliers would continue momentum from the first, taking an early 6-2 lead. Walsh would keep their foot on the pedal, growing their lead to 21-6 with two kills from Fuggs and two Walsh attack errors as the only points in between. The Unicorns would go on their first run taking three in a row with kills from Kirch and Wiley, bringing the score to 21-9. The Cavaliers would close out the set 25-10. 
 
Set 3: The Cavaliers would race out and take the first five points of the set. The Unicorns would then take the next two points with a kill from Jasmine Heyward and a block from Heyward and Jocelyn Rogers. Walsh would continue to score in bunches and grow their lead to 21-10. The Cavaliers would take the set 25-14.

Lake Erie continues their struggles against Walsh as their losing streak reaches 12 games and is now 6-18 all-time. The last Lake Erie victory came on the road in 2018 in five sets.

Lake Erie play their fourth game in a row at home with Ursuline College coming to the Jerome T. Osborne Center on Tuesday, October 7th at 6 p.m. 
 
Ursuline is currently 0-12 overall and 0-6 in G-MAC play to begin the season. Recently, the Arrows dropped in straight sets to Walsh and Fairmont State at home. In the 2025 preseason poll, the Arrows were picked to finish 5th in the G-MAC East division.
