Storm Wrap Up Homestand with Four-Set Loss to Pioneers

PAINESVILLE, Ohio – The Lake Erie volleyball team concluded their five-game homestand against the Malone Pioneers. The Pioneers and the Storm would split the first two sets. The Pioneers would take sets three and four for the match on the Storm's home court.

Set 1: The Pioneers would jolt ahead of the Storm 6-3 to begin the set. Malone's lead continued to grow with the score at 18-9. A block and kill from Allison Kirch would cut the Lake Erie deficit to 19-12. The Pioneers would take three of the next four points, going ahead 22-13. The Storm would then take the next three points with a kill from Jasmine Heyward, and a block from Heyward and Kennady Wiley, bringing the score to 22-16. Malone would close out the set 25-17. 
 
Set 2: After the teams would exchange points to begin the set, the Storm would push ahead with four straight points, going ahead 8-4 with kills from Wiley and Gabrielle Jones, a block from Wiley and Sadie Nawrocki, and an ace from Jenna Sayles. The Pioneers would go on a run and take a 16-14 lead. Lake Erie would then seven of the next eight points to move ahead 21-17 with kills from Jones, Wiley, Nawrocki, and Sophia McKenzie, an ace from Sayles, and a block from McKenzie. Malone would then cut the deficit to 22-21. Two kills from Nawrocki and an ace from Wiley would seal the set for the Storm, taking it 25-21. 
 
Set 3: The Pioneers would power ahead, grabbing a 10-6 lead. The Storm would take the next three points, bringing the score to 10-9 after a kill from Nora Larson and an ace from Nicole Colombo. Lake Erie would push ahead 17-16 after kills from Wiley, Nawrocki, and Larson. Malone would then grab momentum, taking six of the next seven points for a 22-18 lead. The Pioneers would hold onto the set 25-21. 
 
Set 4: The Pioneers would continue their momentum from the third to race out to a 10-3 lead. The Storm would take four of the next five points, cutting the deficit to 11-7 with kills from Larson and Lexi Stooksbury and an ace from Cecelia Mullen. Malone would move ahead 17-9. Lake Erie would cut the deficit to 20-14 after a kill from Wiley from Kylie Anderson. The Pioneers would comfortably take the set 25-16.
