Men's Soccer Splits Regular Season Contests With Kentucky Wesleyan With Loss in Owensboro

OWENSBORO, Kentucky — The Lake Erie men's soccer team took to the road last night to face the Kentucky Wesleyan Panthers for the second time this season. The match was closer this time around but the Storm would fall, 2-1. The loss takes their record to 4-2-5 on the season and 4-2-1 record in G-MAC play — an identical record to the Panthers.

Game Recap

Kentucky Wesleyan outpaced the Storm in the first half, getting off seven shot attempts compared to Lake Erie's two. Despite the slight edge, the Storm were resilient and the game remained scoreless.

In the second half, the Storm offense came alive and recorded seven shot attempts.

In the 51st minute, the Panthers took the lead with a goal by Cameron Bell which was assisted by Haakon Torvbraaten and Jhaeem Bryan.

In the 76th minute, a controversial play led to a red card being assessed to Gabriele Argint and a yellow being given to Kentucky Wesleyan's Jersey Lopez.

This appeared to fire up the Storm and in the 80th minute, they tied the game up on a goal by Luka Bekovic with an assist by Ido Omaysi.

Unfortunately, the Panthers responded a minute later to take the lead and finish out the close contest.

Nicolas Vagujhelyi led the team with three shot attempts and goalkeeper David Ruiz Ospina recorded a season-high six saves.

Looking Ahead

The Storm will be back in action on Saturday, October 11th on the road against the Thomas More University Saints. The game is scheduled for 1:30 p.m.
