MIDLAND, Michigan -- The Lake Erie men's soccer team traveled to Midland, Michigan today for a Great Midwest matchup against the Northwood University Timberwolves. It was a close contest between the two sides but the Storm would come out on top, 2-1. The win improved their record to 4-1-4 on the season and 4-1 in G-MAC competition.
Game Recap
Much like their previous contest, the Storm got off to a slow start. They managed only three shots in the first half but luckily the Timberwolves also struggled and got off three shots themselves. In the 9th minute, one of those shots would find its way into the net though and Northwood took a 1-0 lead.
In the second half, Lake Erie came out looking much better. In the 58th minute, Gabriele Argint found Cal Babiash who put one in the lower right hand corner to tie the game at one.
The game would remain tied for a large majority of the half and when it was starting to look like the Storm may earn a school-record fifth tie on the season, Glory Hser took a shot which was saved by the Northwood goalkeeper but came back to Hser who put it in for the game winning goal in the 87th minute.
In the half, Lake Erie out shot Northwood 13-5 with five shots on goal.
Hser, Babiash, and Veljko Radovanovic led the team with three shots a piece. All of Babiash's would be shot on goal.
The Matchup
The win gives the Storm an all-time record of 8-13-3 against the Timberwolves. This is their first win since October 20, 2022 when they took them down 4-1 at home.
Looking Ahead
Lake Erie will be back in action on Saturday, October 4th on the road against the Walsh Cavaliers. The game is set for 7:00 p.m.
