Storm Complete Road Trip With Loss to Chargers

HILLSDALE, Michigan – The Lake Erie women's basketball team took to the road again today this time to face the Hillsdale College Chargers. The Storm would suffer a 75-46 loss and they now fall to 3-7 on the season and 0-5 in G-MAC play.

Game Recap

Lake Erie faced a challenging start, trailing 18-5 after the first quarter. While their offense struggled to find its rhythm, their defensive effort kept them from falling even further behind. The Storm's hustle and energy hinted at a stronger performance in the upcoming quarters.

The Storm found their stride in the second quarter, scoring 15 points and started to build offensive momentum. They made adjustments that allowed them to compete more effectively, forcing the Chargers to work harder for their points. Although the deficit remained, the Storm's improved play gave them something to build on heading into halftime.

The third quarter saw the Storm continuing to battle, though turnovers and missed opportunities made it difficult to close the gap. Their defensive intensity was evident, but the offense wasn't able to fully capitalize on key opportunities. While the Chargers maintained their lead, the Storm showed flashes of the potential that could carry them in future games.

Lake Erie finished strong, scoring 17 points in their best quarter of the game. Bench players stepped up with critical contributions, and the team's determination was on full display. Despite the uphill battle, the Storm's effort in the final minutes highlighted their commitment to fighting until the end.

Despite the lopsided final score, the Storm's defensive efforts did not go unnoticed. As a team, they recorded 13 steals compared to Hillsdale's 10. Eight different players were able to contribute to the steal total, with five players coming up with multiple.

Lilee Carlson accounted for two of those steals while also leading the team with nine points. Grace Lyon and Kylie Maxwell were a strong duo in the paint, leading all players on both teams with seven rebounds a piece.

The Matchup

The loss now brings the Storm's all-time record to 6-18 against the Chargers with their last victory coming on January 28, 2021 on the road. Barring any postseason meetups, they will look to break the five-game losing streak next season.

Looking Ahead

The Storm will be back in action on Thursday, January 9th at home against the Kentucky Wesleyan Panthers. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m.
