CANTON, Ohio -- The Lake Erie women's basketball team took to the road to face the Malone Pioneers tonight in another Great Midwest matchup. Unfortunately, the Storm were unable to hang with Malone and they fell 82-39.
Game Recap
Malone started the game with a hot offensive performance, scoring 29 points in the first quarter while Lake Erie put up 7. The Storm found more rhythm in the second quarter, adding 14 points, but Malone continued to execute efficiently, taking a solid lead into halftime.
Lake Erie came out of the break determined, battling in the third quarter and adding another 10 points to their tally. However, Malone's steady scoring kept them in control. In the final period, both teams continued to compete until the final buzzer.
Despite the result, Lake Erie showed flashes of strong play and will look to build on those positives in their next game. Meanwhile, Malone continued their impressive season, extending their winning streak in conference action.
The Matchup
In the past few years, the Storm have not been able to keep pace with the Pioneers. The Storm are now 5-19 all-time against Malone and will look to get back in the win column next season as the two sides will not meet again this season.
Looking Ahead
The Storm will play one more road game on Saturday, February 1st against the Ohio Dominican Panthers before returning home to face the Cedarville Yellow Jackets on Thursday, February 6th.
