ASHLAND, Ohio -- The Lake Erie women's basketball team traveled to Ashland, Ohio today to take on the #12 Ashland University Eagles. The Storm improved upon their last meeting against the Eagles, but ultimately fell 65-43. With the loss, the Storm now fall to 3-13 on the year and 0-10 in G-MAC play.

#12 Ashland set the pace early, putting up 18 points in the opening quarter. Their sharp ball movement and efficient scoring gave them an early edge. The Storm, while battling hard, managed 11 points as they worked to settle into their offensive rhythm.
Lake Erie showed flashes of their potential in the second quarter, with improved defensive efforts and a few key plays. However, the Eagles maintained their momentum, adding 13 points to their total while the Storm contributed 9 points and at halftime, the Eagles held a 31-20 lead.
After the break, Ashland continued their strong performance, adding another 18 points in the third quarter. Their ability to capitalize on opportunities and maintain their defensive intensity kept the Storm at bay. Lake Erie added 8 points during this period, demonstrating resilience despite the challenges.
The Storm saved their best for last, scoring 15 points in a spirited fourth-quarter effort. Their determination and energy were evident as they fought to close the gap. The Ashland Eagles, however, matched their output with 16 points, ensuring their lead remained intact and securing the victory.
Lake Erie managed to have three scorers in double-digits today. Lilee Carlson (11), Grace Lyon (11), and Anna Ibos (10) all contributed heavily to the Storm's offensive performance. Their defensive efforts were also on display as they matched the Eagles in steals (10) and blocked more shots (3-2).
The Matchup
The Eagles, who have long been a dominant force in the G-MAC and nationally, continued to play their style of ball today and kept their undefeated record against the Storm. Despite the loss, the Storm held Ashland to just 65 points which is the lowest total they've given up to an Eagles team since February 3, 2014 when they held them to 63 points. The 22-point loss is also the smallest margin of defeat since January 19, 2017 when they fell by just seven points. This is an exciting performance for a Storm team that has been searching for improvement as the season goes along.

Lake Erie will continue their road trip on Thursday, January 30th against the Malone Pioneers at 5:30 p.m before wrapping up against Ohio Domincian on Tuesday, February 4th before returning home to face Cedarville on Thursday, February 6th.
