PAINESVILLE, Ohio -- The Lake Erie women's basketball team hosted the Ohio Dominican Panthers today for another Great Midwest matchup. The Storm fought hard but were unable to come away with the victory, falling 80-62.

The opening quarter set the tone for a competitive matchup. The Panthers came out firing, scoring 15 points, but the Storm answered back with 10, showing early signs of their fighting spirit. The second quarter mirrored the first, with the Storm narrowing the scoring gap thanks to a combination of tight defense and fast-break opportunities. By halftime, the Panthers held a slim lead, 28–22, as both teams looked to make critical adjustments.
The third quarter was the turning point of the game, as the Panthers erupted for a massive 30-point quarter. Despite the offensive surge, the Storm responded admirably, scoring 21 points of their own—their highest-scoring period of the night. Key players from the Storm stepped up during this stretch, particularly on the boards, where they hustled for rebounds to create second-chance opportunities. Their determination kept the deficit from growing insurmountable.
Heading into the fourth quarter, Lake Erie showed no signs of giving up. They continued to push the pace and worked hard on both ends of the floor, out-hustling the Panthers on several plays. Although they ultimately lost the quarter 22–19, the Storm demonstrated grit and heart, refusing to let the game slip away without a fight.
Key players for the Storm were instrumental in keeping the game competitive. Grace Lyon contributed a double-double, grabbing 10 rebounds including 3 on the offensive glass, while also scoring a team-high 15 points. Lilee Carlson also scored 15 points in the contest and impressed defensively too, grabbing three steals.
The Matchup
Lake Erie now falls to 12-19 all-time against the Panthers and have now suffered three straight losses to them. They will get one more shot this season to break the losing streak. On Tuesday, February 4th they will travel to Columbus with tip-off scheduled for 5:30 p.m.

The Storm will be back in action on Thursday, January 23rd at home to host the Ursuline College Arrows.
