Volleyball Falls to Arrows in Straight Sets

PEPPER PIKE, Ohio -- The Lake Erie Volleyball team went on the road to continue G-MAC competition as they would compete against the Ursuline Arrows. Both teams were looking to pick up their first G-MAC win of the year and the Arrows would be team to get their first conference win as they would beat the Storm in straight sets. Lake Erie moves to 0-3 in the G-MAC and 2-9 overall.

Game Recap

The first set would see both teams trading points to begin the set. After an ace from senior Simone Schurr to give the Storm a 4-3 lead, the Arrows would take the next three points for a 6-4 Arrows lead. Ursuline would grow the lead 12-8 after a Lake Erie attack error and an Ursuline kill. Two Arrows attack errors would cut the Storm deficit to 12-10 until the Arrows would grab momentum and win six of the next seven points to grow the Arrows lead to 18-11. Lake Erie would halt the Ursuline momentum as they would win the next eight of the next nine points highlighted by a solo block from sophomore Diamond Baker, two blocks from Baker and redshirt freshman Rori Hanken and a kill each from Baker, Hanken, senior Katelyn McMoore, and freshman Allison Kirch to tie the game at 19-19. The Arrows would win the next five points and take a 24-19 lead. Kills from Hanken, freshman Sadie Nawrocki, and senior Anna Lewis, as well as an ace from sophomore Jenna Sayles would not be enough for the Storm as Ursuline would win the first set by a score of 25-23.

The second set would see the Arrows race out to an early 10-3 lead with the Arrows offense recording seven kills. Blocks by Baker and freshman Gabrielle Jones and a block by Kirch would bring the Storm to 13-7 deficit. The Ursuline offense would continue to gain momentum as four kills and an ace would give them an 18-9 lead. An Arrows service error and a McMoore kill would be the only points left the Storm would take in the set as the Arrows would win the last seven points and take the second set by a score of 25-11.

The third set would begin just as they first set with both teams trading points to begin the set. After a kill from sophomore Kennady Wiley and two Ursuline attack errors, Ursuline would grab the next four points to take a 9-6 advantage. Kills from Kirch and McMoore would cut the Arrows lead to 10-9. Ursuline would take five of the next seven points to go up by a score of 15-11. The Arrows would continue to grow their lead after multiple Storm attack errors and would see their lead grow to 19-12. Lake Erie would fight back by taking six of the next seven points highlighted by kills from Lewis, Sayles, Kirch, and freshman Nora Larson, and a block by Kirch to cut the Ursuline lead to 20-18. Ursuline would take four of the next five points to grow their lead back and take a 24-19 lead. An ace from Schurr would not be enough for the Storm as the Arrows would take the third set by a score of 25-22.

The Storm offense was led by Kirch, who had seven kills. Schurr would lead the team with 12 assists and Sayles would add in 6. The Storm defense was led by Baker, who had four blocks, and senior Brooklyn Broadway would lead the team with 15 digs.
