Lake Erie Falls to Findlay to Begin G-MAC Play

FINDLAY, Ohio – The Lake Erie football team took on the University of Findlay Oilers today for their first Great Midwest (G-MAC) competition of the season. The Storm put up more of a fight than expected against the preseason favorites but ultimately fell 42-6 to bring their record to 1-2 on the season and now 0-1 in G-MAC play.

Game Recap

With two non-conference matchups behind them, Lake Erie now turned to face the Oilers to get an idea of how they will fair in the G-MAC this season.

The Oilers first offensive series was not pretty for the Storm as they traveled 75 yards on just three plays to put seven on the board. The Lake Erie offense was not able to have the same success in their first drive though and they went just 17 yards on six plays before they were forced to punt.

After holding off the Findlay offense the next drive, the Storm put together a six-play, 50-yard series to get on the board courtesy of a 37-yard field goal by Jaffer Murphy.

That score would remain the final at the end of the quarter, with the Storm defense holding the Oilers at bay.

From there though, Findlay would start to take over, they scored fourteen in the second and allowed just one more field goal from the Storm to take a 21-6 lead into the half. In the third they shut out the Storm and scored fourteen more before finishing up the game with seven more points in the fourth, handing Lake Erie a 42-6 loss.

Quarterback Alec Lewis went 16-for-27 throwing for 123 yards with one interception. On the ground, Krys Riley-Richardson did all he could do against the Oilers run defense, leading the team with 32 yards.

Defensively, the Storm gathered seven tackles for loss in addition to one sack each from Jeremiah Penick, Cameron Prater, and Conner Hopson. Prater would also force a fumble in the game

The Matchup

The Oilers continue to have the Storm's number as Lake Erie now falls to 1-12 all-time with the losing streak extending to 12 games.

Looking Ahead
The Storm will be back at home next week, Saturday, September 28th to face the Northwood Timberwolves for their homecoming game. Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m.
