Football Drops Homecoming Game to Northwood

PAINESVILLE, Ohio -- The Lake Erie football team hosted the Northwood University Timberwolves tonight for their annual homecoming game. The Storm were unable to hold off the Timberwolves and ultimately fell 55-20, dropping their record to 1-3 on the year and 0-2 in G-MAC competition.

Game Recap
With last week's road loss against the preseason favorites Findlay, the Storm looked to take that experience and apply it to their matchup this week against the Timberwolves.

Northwood took just two minutes and 37 second to score the first points of the game, marching 75-yards down the field in seven plays to put seven on the board.

The Storm offense was not able to answer next drive but their defense showed that they had the potential to be a strong factor against Northwood this game as they didn't allow another point in the first quarter.

Continuing off the drive they started at the end of Q1, the Storm tied the game up on their first play with a one-yard touchdown run by Krys Riley-Richardson.

Northwood grabbed he lead right back during their next drive with a 47-yard field goal and extended it with a 40-yard conversion during the next drive.

The Storm's next offensive drive would prove to be the be a momentum shifter though.

While on their own 28-yardline, quarterback Alec Lewis handed the ball off Riley-Richardson who handed it off to Ali Lee Jr. who then attempted to pitch the ball back to Lewis. Unfortunately, Lewis was not in the exact spot that Lee Jr. tossed it to and a mad scramble broke out to recover the ball. The Timberwolves would scoop it up at the LEC 3 and stumble into the endzone for a score and growing the deficit to 20-7.

Northwood entered the second half with a 34-7 lead and carried that momentum through the remainder of the game, finishing with a 55-20 victory.

Lewis concluded the game throwing 22-of-42 for 258 yards and two touchdowns. Ali Lee Jr. showed once again that he is the Storm's No. 1 receiver, leading the way with six receptions for 98 yards.

The Matchup
In just their fourth matchup all-time, Northwood now holds a 3-1 record. In 2022 the Storm earned their lone victory to welcome Northwood into the G-MAC. Their win aside, the Timberwolves have not seemed to have any problems with Lake Erie, earning their smallest margin of victory in 2016 when they won 44-14.

Looking Ahead
The Storm will travel to face Walsh University next week October, 5th at 12 p.m. to battle for the annual Pride and Passion Trophy. After an exciting overtime victory against the Cavaliers in 2022, the Storm surrendered possession of the trophy last season when they fell 30-16 at home.
