PAINESVILLE, Ohio — The Lake Erie women's lacrosse team hosted the Findlay Oilers for another G-MAC game, going into the end of the 2024 regular season. The Storm honored their seniors of the team, including Megan Schanz, Kiya Smith, Cynthia Saxby, Sydeny Jekutis, and Emma Rhoades. Despite a strong fight in the begging of the game, the Storm could not hold off the Oilers, with a 16-6 loss in the end. Lake Erie now has a 1-4 conference record and are 5-9 overall.
The first period was started off with a goal from Reese Friesen, putting the Storm on the board early. This goal was quickly matched by the Oilers, followed by two more goals to give Findlay a 3-1 lead. Lake Erie answered back with two goals of their own, from seniors Emma Rhoades and Cynthia Saxby. A 3-3 tie would take things into the second period.
Despite a strong first period, the Oilers quickly took over the game. Five goals in the second period were unanswered by the Storm, giving Findlay a 8-3 lead going into the half.
The Storm was able to find the back of the net for three more goals in the second half, from Friesen, Saxby, and Madelyn Goodrich, yet Findlay held their lead. More goals from the Oilers increased the lead to a 16-6 win in the end.
Leaders for the Storm include Saxby and Friesen with two goals each, with Saxby picking up three ground balls. Shannon Smith caused two turnovers adding to her career total.
Avery Artino was in the goal for the Storm all 60 minutes, recording seven saves.
Lake Erie is on the road for their next conference game on Friday, April 12th as they head to Ursuline College to take on the Arrows at 3:30 PM.
