Storm Win First Home Conference Tournament Game in Program History

PAINESVILLE, OH — The Lake Erie Storm Men's Lacrosse team were in action for their first home post season match against the Malone University Pioneers. This was the first time Lake Erie hosted a conference tournament match and it did not disappoint. Lake Erie dominated 20-10 and they now move on to the next round of the G-MAC tournament.

The Storm would lead the way going into halftime 11-7 after a huge seven goal second quarter. Lake Erie finished with 20 goals off of 50 total shots, seven assists, 40 ground balls, and only 18 turnovers to the Pioneers 34. 18 of the 34 Malone turnovers were caused by the Storm.

Dawson Kindall had a monster game leading all things for Lake Erie. Kindall had six goals on just 11 shots, while grabbing three ground balls, and only committing one turnover. Kindall had an awesome shot on goal, grabbed his own ricochet, and put it back in for the score.

Kevin Albright was the next leading Storm scorer, having three goals and one assist. Robert Weil, Tim Woods, Andrew Cramer, and Jackman Schooley each scored two goals in the match. Billy Coughlin, Nicholas Mahoney, and Joshua Hegbe all scored a single time. Hegbe, who is primarily on face offs and a defender, recorded his first career goal in the playoff victory while using a defensive lacrosse stick.

Whitlock, Albright, Weil, Coughlin, Cramer, Zurowski, and Schooley all tied for a team high in assists with one each.

Garrett Brockmeyer went 4-19 on face offs, while Joshua Hegbe completed 2-10 in the victory. Mitch Kiebala played outstanding in the second half allowing only three goals in the last two quarters.  Kiebala had eight saves in the match, allowing only ten total goals to the Pioneers.

Lake Erie will move on in the playoffs as they head to Greensburg, PA on Thursday, May 2, to take on the Seton Hill Griffins. The match will begin at 12 PM.
