PAINESVILLE, Ohio — The Lake Erie women's lacrosse competed in their last competition for the 2024 regular season. The Storm hosted the Thomas More Saints for their final G-MAC game before the conference playoffs. In a tough battle with the Saints, Lake Erie could not best Thomas More with a 15-10 loss in the end. The Storm finish the regular season with a 2-5 conference record and a 6-10 record overall.
The first period was quickly taken over by the Saints, scoring two goals in the beginning. The Storm responded with a goal from Madelyn Goodrich, assisted by Reese Friesen to put Lake Erie on the board. Despite strong efforts with shots on goal, Thomas More was able to score three more before the period was over, taking a 5-1 lead over the Storm going into the second period.
The Storm found a rhythm in the second half, with an early free position goal from Brooke McNeal for the Storm's second goal of the day. Erin Snyder quickly matched this goal with her first of the day, bringing the Storm within two points. However, the Saints kept their offense strong, with three goals in a row. This was answered by the Storm, with three back-to-back goals to bring the score to 8-6, down by two going into the half.
The Storm continued to fight into the half, recording shots and saves. The Saints were able to push through Lake Erie defense to score six more goals in the third, which would go unanswered. The Storm would have to make a strong comeback in the last period.
The Storm fought back with goals from Snyder, Goodrich, and Cynthia Saxby, yet the Saints held their lead and furthered it to take the final 15-10 win.
Leaders for the Storm include Snyder with three goals, followed by Saxby, McNeal, and Goodrich all scoring two each. Mea Lally picked up six ground balls for the day with three caused turnovers, and Shannon Smith had three ground balls with two caused turnovers.
Brooke McNeal won seven draw controls, tying the single season record of 81 draw controls.
Avery Artino was in the goal for the Storm, tallying six saves. Bethany Kirkwood took over the net in the fourth period, marking two saves.
The Storm's post-regular season schedule for the G-MAC is to be determined.
