Storm Drop Series to Dragons

EASTLAKE, OH – The Lake Erie Storm baseball team completed a series against the Tiffin University Dragons, on April 13 and 14. The Storm dropped the series to the Dragons 1-3, bringing their record to 15-18 on the year and  7-11 in conference play. 

GAME ONE
LAKE ERIE - 12
TIFFIN - 16

The Storm battled to the final out in the first game, while Tiffin struggled to put Lake Erie away in the bottom of the 9th and the Storm sent the tying run up to the plate despite the Dragons having an 8-run lead to begin the inning. Scoring five in the ninth was not enough for the Storm as they would fall 12-16. Israel Espinosa and Jacob Mote each hit a double in the contest while Graham Solak had one home run. Mitchel Szymczak had two sacrifice flies during the game and finished with three RBIs. Trevor Smentek finished with three RBIs while Solak finished with two.

GAME TWO
LAKE ERIE - 4
TIFFIN - 9

The Storm bounced back strong after the failed comeback attempt in game two but were still unable to get the win. Mitchel Szymczak, Jacob Mote, and Sebastian Silva each had a double in game two. Silva finished 1-4 with an RBI while Mannuk Cadiz also had one RBI batting 1-3. Robert Helt went five innings pitched giving up five earned runs off ten hits while striking out four. Landen Vance came in for two innings of relief giving up two earned runs while striking out three.

GAME THREE
LAKE ERIE - 4
TIFFIN - 8

Lake Erie was in control early in the game leading by four heading into the third inning. A five run seventh inning for the Dragons fueled by multiple errors led to the Storm falling. Solak went 2-4 with a home run, a double and three RBIs. Esposito had one RBI. Trevor Smentek finished 1-3 with a double. Alex Caudill pitched four innings, giving up three earned runs on four hits, while striking out two.

GAME FOUR
LAKE ERIE - 4
TIFFIN- 0

The Storm rounded the series out with a 4-0 win over the Dragons. Jacob Mote went 2-3 with two RBIs and a sac fly. Jaxon Christ had a big day going 4-4. Travis Yankovich and Jacob Mote each had a stolen base.

Lake Erie is back in action for a series of double-headers against the Thomas More University Saints, on Saturday and Sunday, April 20 and 21. Saturday's games begin at 1 PM and 4 PM, with Sunday's starting at 12 PM and 3 PM.
