PAINESVILLE, Ohio — The Lake Erie women's lacrosse team continued their string of home games on Saturday, March 30th for a game under the lights. The Storm hosted the Tiffin Dragons, as they looked to grab another G-MAC win. Both sides stayed competitive throughout the four periods, yet the Dragons came out with the 9-7 win in the end. The Storm move to a 1-3 conference record and are 5-8 overall.
The Storm was quick to start the game off with two early goals from Emma Rhoades, unassisted, and Cynthia Saxby, from Erin Snyder. The Dragons tried to combat with a goal, yet Saxby answered back with another goal, unassisted. Tiffin was able to sneak in one more goal before the end of the first period, yet the Storm held their 3-2 lead going into the second.
The clock ran down in the second quarter scoreless with strong defense from both teams, up until the last five minutes. Shannon Smith found the back of the net with an assist from Goodrich, giving the Storm a 4-2 lead. The Dragons did not back down, as they scored before the time ran out. The score would be a close 4-3 Storm up going into the half.
Looking to increase their lead, Goodrich scored her first goal of the game within the first minute of the second half, assisted by Reese Friesen. Despite the Dragons putting up a goal shortly after, the duo of Goodrich and Friesen scored another goal to match Tiffin, gaining a 6-4 lead. Solid defense from the Storm was challenged after another goal from Tiffin, bringing the score closer once again. Shots, fouls, and consistent ball movement from each side ran down the time in the third, yet Tiffin found a rhythm that gave them four unanswered goals. The Storm would then trail by two at 8-6 going into the last period.
Lake Erie needed to gain their momentum back to try and take back their lead. The Dragons put up a goal, but Friesen was fast to reply with a goal, assisted from Snyder. The Storm tried to find the net with the final minutes running out, yet the Dragons held their ground with a 9-7 final score to win.
Saxby and Goodrich each scored a pair of goals to lead the Storm in offense. Goodrich also had eight shots for the night. Shannon Smith picked up six ground balls and two caused turnovers. Brooke McNeal put up seven impressive draws control wins.
Avery Artino was in the goal for the Storm for the full 60 minutes, recording seven saves.
The Storm look to their next game against the Findlay Oilers at home on Sunday, April 7th at 12:00 PM.
