Women's Lacrosse Unable to Combat Eagles at Home

PAINESVILLE, Ohio — The Lake Erie women's lacrosse team returned to their home field for another G-MAC match-up against the Ashland Eagles. The Storm looked to stay in the win column after a big conference win against Malone, yet the Eagles were able to gain an early lead that Lake Erie could not comeback from. The final score ended at a 19-5 Storm loss, moving their conference record to 1-2, and a 5-7 overall record.

The first period was taken over by the Eagles early on, with Ashland scoring four goals in the first minutes of the game. The Storm combatted with a free position goal from Reese Friesen to put Lake Erie on the board. The three goal deficit quickly increased after the Eagles scored three more unanswered goals, to send the Storm into the second period down 7-1.

Strong offense from Ashland furthered their lead to 12-1 in the second period. Emma Rhoades found the back of the net at the end of the period to try and give the Storm some momentum going into the half. Ashland snuck in another goal before the second period ran out.

With the Storm down 13-2 going into the second half, the team looked to regroup and comeback. However the Eagles held their lead, scoring three more. Madelyn Goodrich fought back for the Storm with a goal from Rhoades, yet the third ran out with Ashland ahead 16-3.

Ashland started the fourth period with a pair of goals. These two were matched from Storm's Rhoades and Friesen, to bring the score up to 18-4. Friesen scored one more to combat. Despite fighting efforts in the end, the clock ran out giving the Eagles the win after scoring one more to make it 19-5.

Leaders for the Storm include Friesen with three goals and an assist, Rhoades with two goals, followed by Goodrich for one. Mea Lally and Shannon Smith each picked up two ground balls each.

Avery Artino started in the goal for the Storm, recording a save. Bethany Kirkwood took over for the remainder of the game.
