Women's Lacrosse Secure G-MAC Win Against Pioneers

CANTON, Ohio — The Lake Erie women's lacrosse team traveled to Malone University to face the Pioneers for another G-MAC matchup. The Storm dominated the Pioneers in a 16-3 win, securing a big conference win.

The first quarter gave Lake Erie an early 3-0 lead with goals from Reese Friesen, Emma Rhoades, and Madelyn Goodrich. The Pioneers were unable to respond going into the second period.

Despite two goals from Malone to combat the Storm, Lake Erie scored six crucial goals. Friesen, Emma Rhoades, Amelia Shirk, Cynthia Saxby, and Goodrich (2) helped the Storm gain a 9-2 lead going into the half.

Lake Erie matched their six goals in the second half with six more goals in the third period, with goals from Friesen, Saxby, Rhoades (2), and Corinne Shimek (2). The Pioneers were able to compete with one goal, yet the Storm held their lead at 15-3 going into the last period.

A final goal from Goodrich was unmatched to give the Storm the 16-3 win in the end.

Rhoades and Goodrich led the Storm with four goals each, followed by Friesen with three. Rhoades and Megan Schanz picked up three ground balls each, and Mea Lally caused three turnovers.

Avery Artino was in the goal for the first 45 minutes of the game, recording three saves. Bethany Kirkwood took over for the last 15 minutes picking up a save.

The Storm look to continue their winning streak in the conference against the Ashland Eagles at home on Thursday, March 28th at 1:00 PM.
