Women's Lacrosse Drop First Conference Match to Cavaliers

NORTH CANTON, Ohio — The Lake Erie women's lacrosse team traveled to Walsh University to face the Cavaliers for their first Great Midwest Athletic Conference game of the 2024 season. With fighting efforts throughout the match-up, the Storm could not outscore the Cavaliers, falling to a a score of 18-4. Lake Erie moves to a 0-1 conference record and are 4-6 overall. 

The Cavaliers took an early lead in the first quarter, scoring six goals to Lake Erie's two. They matched their six goals in the second, as the Storm could not find the net. The score was 12-2 going into the half. Despite the Storm's two goals in the second half of the game, the Cavaliers could not be stopped, scoring six more to take the 18-4 lead. 

Leaders for the Storm included Shannon Smith with two goals, Brooke McNeal with one, and Emma Rhoades with one. Avery Artino started in the goal for the Storm, picking up a save. Bethany Kirkwood took over for the second half of the game, also picking up a save. 

Lake Erie is on the road again for their next conference game against the Malone Pioneers on Saturday, March 23rd at 4:00 PM.
