Lake Erie Athletics to Discontinue Golf Programs After 2023-24 Season

PAINESVILLE, Ohio -- Lake Erie College Athletics has announced that they will be discontinuing it's men's and women's golf programs after the 2023-24 year. Following the completion of the 2024 competition season, Lake Erie College will no longer sponsor men's and women's golf as a varsity sport.

"Decisions such as this are never easy and are made with great care while keeping both the institution and the student-athlete experience in mind, said Molly Hoffman, Executive Director of Athletics. "Unfortunately, we are no longer in a position to continue to offer golf as an NCAA sport at LEC. I want to commend the student athletes that are directly affected by this for their maturity and grace as they were informed of the decision. We are dedicated to helping the affected students persist to graduation."

Important notes for the impacted student-athletes:
  • For all impacted students on athletic scholarship, Lake Erie College will honor those commitments to enable them to graduate as scheduled.
  • All student-athletes who elect to remain at Lake Erie College will continue to have access to the full complement of academic support and medical services, if they remain in good standing under Lake Erie College rules and that circumstances allow.
  • For those who wish to transfer to other institutions to complete their college athletics eligibility, they will be fully supported in that transition.
