Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Dominant First Half Not Enough to Hold Off Timberwolves

PAINESVILLE, Ohio -- The Lake Erie women's basketball battled the Northwood University Timberwolves at home to continue Great Midwest Athletic Conference play. The Storms offense got off to a strong start as they were up by five at halftime. However they were unable to close out the game, falling in the final seconds 63-62. This loss brings the Storms record 1-19 (0-14 G-MAC).

Freshman Nina Shaffer led the Storm to an early lead as she scored eight first quarter points. The Storm extended their lead by as many as 13 in the second quarter. The Storm shot an impressive 14-of-28 (50%) in the first half, and held the Timberwolves to just 12-of-35 (34%) from the field. However in the second half, the Storm struggled to keep their momentum and their offense slowed down. Despite holding the Timberwolves to just making three shots from the field in the fourth quarter, a three-point shot with 41 seconds left would be enough for the Timberwolves to secure their win.

The Storm had four players in double figures. Junior Anna Ibos led the Storm with 13 points. She also had six rebounds and four assists. Freshman Sophie Chipps and Shaffer both scored 11 points. Additionally, Chipps tallied five rebounds, two assists, and a steal. Schaffer added two rebounds, two assists and a steal. Freshman Kylie Maxwell grabbed a career and team high of 10 rebounds and five assists. She also contributed seven points.

The Storm will be back in action when they take on the Hillsdale College Chargers at home for another G-MAC match-up. This game will take place on Saturday, Feb. 10 at 3 p.m.
