Hughes' Career High not Enough for Storm as they fall 74-70

NORTH CANTON, Ohio — The Lake Erie Storm Men's basketball team had their final away game of the season on Thursday, February 29, when they traveled south to North Canton to take on the Walsh University Cavaliers. Lake Erie was up 43-37 at the half but would go on to lose in a tight matchup 70-74. This brings their overall record to 8-19, and 6-13 in conference play with just one final game to go.

The Storm finished shooting 49% from the floor, and 38.5% from three point range. The Storm only shot four foul shots for the entire game going 100%. Lake Erie had 32 total boards on the night. They had 11 total team assists and eight points off of the bench. Lake Erie caused five Cavaliers turnovers, converting those to six points. The Storm had 30 points in the paint and ended with 5 team steals. Lake Erie couldn't stop the Cavaliers in the second half. After leading by six to end the half, Lake Erie struggled to get their offense going, only scoring 27 in the second period. 

Lake Erie was led by Leon Hughes who dropped a new career high and game high 27 points. He went 5-8 from three point range, grabbed nine rebounds and had two steals in a team high 39 minutes of action. C.J Hornbeak was the next highest scorer for the Storm finishing with 16 points, five assists, and one rebound. Jake Leibacher added eight points, three rebounds, and two steals in the loss. 

Lake Erie heads home for their final game of the 2023-2024 season and senior night on Saturday, March 2, as they take on the Tiffin University Dragons. Senior night recognitions are at 1 PM with the tip off to follow.
