Storm Fall in Final Game of the Year, 70-57

PAINESVILLE, Ohio — The Lake Erie Storm rounded out the 2023-2024 season with one final home game on Saturday, March 2, as they took on Tiffin University Dragons for senior night. Lake Erie was down 34-26 at the break and would lose 57-70. This brings the final Storm record to 8-20 on the year and 6-14 in the G-MAC conference for the 2023-2024 season. 

In their final game, Lake Erie finished shooting 41% from the floor, and 33% from three point range. The Storm went 10-15 from the stripe at 66%. Lake Erie had 30 total boards on the night. The Storm finished with 10 total team assists and 13 points off the bench. Lake Erie caused 14 Tiffin turnovers, converting those to seven points. The Storm had  24 points in the paint and ended with six team steals. 

Hughes and Hornbeak led the way for the Storm, scoring 16 each. Hughes finished with 16 points and a team high five rebounds. Manning finished with seven points and four rebounds while fouling out with a little over seven minutes remaining in the game. Todd Simons also added five points and five boards in the contest. 

Lake Erie finished the 2023-2024 season with five seniors this season. Damion Williams, Jordan Burge, Leon Hughes, Jonny Manning, and Jacob Plantz. The Storm averaged 75.6 points per game on the year. Lake Erie averaged 36.8 total rebounds per game, 15 total assists per game, 6.2 steals per game, and 3.0 total blocks per game this season.

Jonny Manning led the Storm in total points on the year with 394 and 14.6 per game. Jacob Plantz led Lake Erie in three point field goals for the season. In 23 games he made 48 three pointers out of 151 for an average of .318 shooting percentage with 2.1 threes made per game. Manning led the way for Lake Erie in total boards for the year with 209 Storm rebounds on the season and 7.7 per game average. C.J. Hornbeak led the team with 89 total assists this year, a 3.4 per game average. Plantz also led the squad in total steals with 27 total, 1.2 per game. Lastly, Jonny Manning racked up the most Storm blocks on the season with 28 total and a 1.0 block per game average. C.J. Hornbeak also led the team in total minutes played this season with 785, a little over 30 minutes per game. 

Jonny Manning was a double-double machine this year and his longevity led to Manning being able to suit up for all but one game this season. In 96 total career games, Manning finished his Storm career with 11.2 points per game, 1.2 assists per game, 0.6 steals per game, 1.1 blocks per game, and 6.3 rebounds per game in 23.6 minutes of action per game. Jonny finished the 2023-2024 season with 14.6 ppg, 48.5 shooting percentage from the field and 39.2% from behind the arch. He had 7.7 rebounds per game, 0.8 steals per game, and 1.0 blocks per game for the Storm. He finished his Lake Erie career with 1,073 total points, 606 total rebounds, 104 total blocks, and 58 total steals. 

In 23 games this season, Plantz finished with 14.5 points per game, 1.3 assists per game, 1.2 steals per game, and 3.1 rebounds per game. Jacob finished the year shooting 43.9% from the field and 31.8% from behind the arch. He finished his Lake Erie career with 1,318 total points. 126 total steals, 149 total assists, and 443 total rebounds. Plantz is a career 43% from the field and 31.8% from three point range. In his 113 games played, Plantz finished with averages of 11.7 ppg, 1.12 steals per game, 1.3 assists per game, and 3.9 rebounds per game in 27.6 minutes per game. 

In 28 games played this season, Leon Hughes finished with 11.1  points per game, 1.9 assists per game, 0.8 steals per game, 0.6 blocks per game, and a career high 5.4 rebounds per game. Leon finished the year shooting 42.2% from the field and 36.8% from behind the arch. He finished his Lake Erie career with 785 total points, 122 total assists, 57 total steals, 58 total blocks, and 383 total rebounds. Hughes is a career 41.4% shooter from the field and 37.3% shooter from three point range. In his 95 games played, Hughes finished with averages of 8.3 ppg, 0.6 steals per game, 1.3 assists per game, and 4.0 rebounds per game averaging 21.7 minutes per game for his career. 


Game high statistics for the Storm this year:

  • Manning a team high in points with 35 against the Northwood Timberwolves on 2/21/24.

  • Manning with the most field goals made in a game with 13 against Ohio Dominican on 1/18/24.

  • Plantz had a team high  in three point field goals made with six against Ohio Dominican on 1/18/24. 

  • Manning went 12/12 from the foul line on 02/01/24 marking the most made in a game this season and also the most attempted in a game this season. 

  • Manning's team high in rebounds with 19 against Ohio Dominican on 1/18/24. This is also the school's record for most rebounds in a game. 

  • C.J. Hornbeak had a season high eight assists against Ohio Dominican on 02/15/24.

  • Manning, Plantz, and Leibacher all had one game each with a team high in steals with four. Respectively against Utah Tech, Thiel, and Northwood. 

  • Manning had a team high in blocked shots with six against Malone on 02/01/2024.
