PAINESVILLE, OH — The Lake Erie College Storm were back at home on Thursday, February 1, as they took on the Malone University Pioneers. After one half the Storm were up 36-22. They would go on to win 71-62. This brings the Storm record to 6-14 and 4-8 in conference play.
With 10 minutes left in the first half the Pioneers committed more fouls (10) than points scored (9), due to the swarming Lake Erie team defense. The Storm had multiple blocks and steals in the first half to lead them to a first half lead. Lake Erie was led in the second half by Manning and Plant
The Storm shot 39% from the field and 37% from the three point line. The Storm grabbed 37 rebounds, 10 blocks, and 4 steals as a team. The bench scored 5 points . Lake Erie forced 15 Pioneer team turnovers, and scored 14 points off of their mistakes.
Lake Erie was backed by a career game by Jonny Manning. Manning finished the game with a double-double, scoring 28 points. Manning recorded career highs in rebounds, blocks, and foul shots made. He finished with 16 rebounds, six blocks, and went 12-12 from the foul line. Manning also had two assists and one steal.
Plantz added 18 points, three assists, and one steal in a team high 40 minutes. Leon Hughes had 11 points, eight boards, two assists, and one block. C.J. Hornbeak had nine points, three rebounds, and one steal.
Lake Erie is back at home to play the Ashland University Eagles on Saturday, February 3. Tip off is at 1 PM.
