ROCHESTER, New York -- The Lake Erie women's basketball team traveled to New York today to take on the Roberts Wesleyan Redhawks in another non-conference matchup. The Storm won the closely contested battle, 81-79 and improve their record to 2-2 on the year.

It was a tight and gritty battle by both sides in the first half with neither side taking no more than a seven point advantage at any point.
Nina Shaffer led the team with eight points in the half, including two baskets from deep while
Kennadi Harris also knocked down two three-pointers of her own.
In the third quarter, the Storm built up some steam. They tied the game up at 36 within the first minute and took a 43-42 lead with 6:04 remaining. They then went on a 19-7 run to end the quarter and held a 62-49 lead. To begin the fourth, they ran their lead up to as much as 18 points, but then Roberts Wesleyan started to crawl back.
After bouncing back-and-forth between a single-digit and double-digit deficit, the Redhawks managed to hit two late threes but that wouldn't be enough to beat the Storm as the final score read 81-79.
Harris had another fantastic night for Lake Erie. She recorded her first NCAA DII double-double with a 21 point, 10 rebound game while shooting 6-for-17 from the field and 3-for-8 from deep. Shaffer finished with 15 points and
Anna Ibos notched 15 of her own while grabbing eight rebounds.
Lilee Carlson rounded out the double-digit scorers with 12 points on 6-for-8 shooting.
As a team, the Storm relied on a heavy volume of threes to earn the victory. They put up 34 shots from deep and knocking down 12 of them for a 35.3 percent efficiency. Despite being out-rebounded 50-39, the Storm edged out the Redhawks 13-7 on steals and capitalized on them, turning those turnovers into 23 points.
The Matchup
Lake Erie now evens the all-time record against Roberts Wesleyan at 4-4 and they prevent back-to-back losses for the first time since 2016-17 and 2017-18.
Looking Ahead
The Storm will be back in action on Saturday, November 30th on the road against Slippery Rock University. The game is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
