HILLSDALE, Michigan -- The Lake Erie volleyball team headed to Michigan to continue G-MAC competition against the Hillsdale Chargers. Senior
Brooklyn Broadway would record her 1000th career dig during the match, but the Chargers would take a straight sets victory against the Storm. Lake Erie is now 4-8 in the G-MAC and 7-17 overall.
Game Recap
The first set would see the Storm race out to an early 8-3 lead after kills from freshman
Allison Kirch, junior
Jasmine Heyward, and sophomore
Diamond Baker, an ace from senior
Simone Schurr, and a block by Kirch and senior
Anna Lewis. Lake Erie would continue to maintain their lead at 14-9 after a block by Kirch and Baker, and kills from redshirt freshman
Rori Hanken and Baker, each assisted by senior
Sarah Leyden. After two kills from Heyward for an 18-14 lead, the Chargers would grab the momentum by taking the next seven points to take a 21-18 lead. The Storm would then take the next three points following kills from Heyward and Hanken to tie the set at 21-21. Hillsdale would take the next four points to win the first set by a score of 25-21.
The second set saw the Chargers race out to an early 8-2 lead taking advantage of Storm miscues. Hillsdale would continue to grow their lead to 13-5. The Chargers would keep their foot on the pedal taking a 19-9 lead. A triple block by Heyward, Baker and senior
Alexandra Matthews, kills by Baker, Hanken, and Kirch, and an ace from Baker would not be enough for Lake Erie as Hillsdale would take the second set by a score of 25-15.
The third set would see the Storm jolt out to an early 4-1 lead after an ace from Schurr and a kill from senior
Katelyn McMoore. The Chargers would cut the lead to 8-7 after a kill and a block. Lake Erie would grow the lead back to three taking a 12-9 lead after kills from Matthews and freshman
Gabrielle Jones, and a solo block by Lewis. The Storm would continue to grow their lead taking a 17-13 advantage after kills from McMoore and Heyward as well as taking advantage of Chargers miscues. Hillsdale would fight back cutting the Lake Erie lead to 22-20. A kill by Lewis would not be enough for the Storm as the Chargers would take five of the next six points to take the third set by a score of 25-23.
The Storm offense was led by Heyward, who would post seven kills. Schurr would lead the team with 12 assists and Leyden would have 10. The Storm defense was led by Baker and Lewis, each posting three blocks, and Broadway would lead the team with 14 digs.
The Matchup
With the loss, Lake Erie is now 0-24 all-time against Hillsdale.

Lake Erie will conclude their road trip to Michigan as they face Northwood University on Sunday, November 3rd at 1 p.m.
