MIDLAND, Michigan -- The Lake Erie volleyball team concluded their road trip to Michigan with a G-MAC competition against the Northwood Timberwolves. The Timberwolves would take a comfortable straight sets victory against the Storm. Lake Erie is now 4-9 in the G-MAC and 7-18 overall.
Game Recap
The first set would see the Timberwolves jump out to an early 6-2 lead. Northwood would then grow the lead to 10-3. Lake Erie would cut the lead to 11-6 after kills from freshman
Gabrielle Jones and senior
Alexandra Matthews. The Timberwolves would continue their great play bringing the lead to 17-7. The Storm would take two of the next three points with kills from senior
Katelyn McMoore and junior
Jasmine Heyward, each assisted by senior
Simone Schurr to bring the score to 18-9. Northwood would take the next four points to take an insurmountable 22-9 lead. A kill from senior
Anna Lewis and block by Lewis and Heyward would not be enough as the Timberwolves would take the first set by a score of 25-11.
The second set began with the Storm jumping out to a quick 3-1 lead with two kills from Heyward and a block by Heyward and redshirt freshman
Rori Hanken. After a block from Lewis and McMoore to tie the set at 6-6, Northwood would grab control of the set by taking eight of the next nine points and taking a 14-7 lead. The Timberwolves would then take a 17-9 advantage. Lake Erie would fight back by taking four of the next five points to cut the Northwood lead to 18-13 after three kills from McMoore, assists coming from senior
Sarah Leyden and freshman
Sadie Nawrocki. The Timberwolves would take seven of the next nine points to win the second set by a score of 25-15.
The third set would see Northwood continuing their momentum from the second set by taking the first five points. Lake Erie would halt the momentum by taking the next three points a kill from Matthews, and a block by Hanken and Matthews. The Timberwolves would take four of the next five points to take a 9-4 lead. The Storm would cut the lead to 11-10 after a kill and an ace from sophomore
Diamond Baker. Northwood would take control of the set by building their lead to 20-12. A kill from Nawrocki and a block by Baker and Schurr would not be enough for Lake Erie as Northwood would win the third set by a score of 25-16.
The Storm offense was led by Heyward, posting six kills. Schurr would lead the team with 17 assists and Leyden would pitch in seven. The Storm defense was led by Heyward, Lewis, and Hanken, each having two blocks, and senior
Brooklyn Broadway would lead the team with 12 digs.

With the loss, Lake Erie is now 0-7 all-time against Northwood.
