COLUMBUS, Ohio -- The Lake Erie women's soccer team traveled to face Ohio Dominican on Saturday for their final road game of the season which ended in a 0-0 tie. This was their second tie against the Panthers this year.
Game Recap
Leonie Witt brought the game to an exciting start, as she fired three shots in the first three minutes, two of which required saves. After this early barrage, the Storm had a relatively quiet half, with just one late shot attempted by
Abby Piks as time expired. As for Ohio Dominican, their offensive was much more consistent in finding opportunities, yet the Storm defense proved too much, shutting down every attack the Panthers could muster. While Ohio Dominican had 11 shots to Lake Erie's four, both team entered halftime with two saves each, highlighting the Storm's emphasis on smart, calculated shot selections and being stout defensively when teams get dangerously close.
The second period proved to be similar to the first, as the offense found it difficult to break through ODU's resolute defense, trying only three shots in the half. The Panthers found 11 shots of their own, converting on none thanks to the excellent play from Storm goalkeeper
Morgan Vanmeter's and her eight total saves.
The Matchup
Lake Erie is now 2-17-2 all-time against the Pathers following Saturday's tie. Both games this season were highly competitive, rightfully ending in draws, signifying that although the overall record isn't favorable, the tides are turning for the Storm.
Looking Ahead
The Storm will look to wrap their season up with a win when Ursuline comes to town on Wednesday, November 6th at 7:00 p.m. The Arrows previously bested Lake Erie when the teams matched up in mid-September 1-0. They sit at 3-8-5 on the year and place eighth in the G-MAC.
