Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Storm Give Tiffin A Scare But Fall 1-0

PAINESVILLE, Ohio -- The Lake Erie men's soccer team hosted the Tiffin University Dragons at Jack Britt Memorial Stadium tonight for another Great Midwest matchup. The Storm gave the top-ranked Dragons a scare but ultimately fell 1-0. The loss drops their record to 8-7-1 on the season and 7-5 in G-MAC play.

Game Recap

The Storm had their work cut out for them in this Thursday night contest against the Dragons, who once ranked as high as #11 in the country and currently sit atop the G-MAC standings. Lake Erie did not let it phase them though as they came out of the gate playing hard and smart. They kept pace with the Dragons and had many good scoring opportunities but were unable to convert them.

With the game still knotted at zero, it appeared that the Dragons had broken through in the 53rd minute with a score, but an offsides penalty negated that, leaving the game tied at zero.

Both sides continued to look evenly matched, both looking like they would score at any given moment. However, in the 87th minute, the Dragons would get lucky and knock one in, giving them a 1-0 lead and the victory.

Aaron Garrote led the Storm with two shots in the game and Jason LaVacca recorded four saves in goal.

The Matchup

Recent matchups between the two sides have been very hard-fought and scrappy. In their last 10 matchups, the two sides are dead even at 5-5. Overall, the Storm are 8-19 all-time against the Dragons.

Looking Ahead
The Storm will be back in action Saturday, November 2nd at home for senior night. The game is scheduled for 7 p.m. With just two games remaining, Lake Erie currently sits in fifth place in the G-MAC standings just above Thomas More (6-4-2 G-MAC) and Walsh (3-7-2 G-MAC). This season the top six teams will advance to the G-MAC tournament.
