MENTOR, Ohio -- The Lake Erie women's soccer team hosted the Northwood Timberwolves at Mentor High School on Thursday, dropping the match 1-0. This loss moves the Storm record to 2-11-1.

The Storm were on the defensive from the beginning, as Northwood fired off four shots within the first eight minutes, as goalkeeper
Morgan Vanmeter had three saves early on. Lake Erie threatened in the 16th minute, as
Ainsley MacKenzie and
Leonie Witt both found good looks, but the Timberwolves' goalkeeper had a phenomenal defensive stand. The game remain quiet until late in the period, when the Storm would have a continued attack which included three shots, two from
Leonie Witt and one from
Makenna Sanom. The teams would go into the halftime break scoreless with five shots apiece.
In the second period, a lone shot in the 52nd minute by Witt would mark the only offensive opportunity the Storm found, as Northwood dominated time-of-possession. The Timberwolves relentless kept the Storm on their heels, posting 15 shots in the half, finding the back of the net in the 58th minute. The goal would prove to be all they needed, resulting in them walking out with a 1-0 victory, remaining undefeated on the season. Vanmeter played a great game in goal for the Storm, racking up 9 more saves, adding to her G-MAC lead.
The Matchup
The loss on Thursday brings the all-time matchup record against Northwood at 1-9. The last Storm victory came in 2014 in a 3-2 thrilling game.
Looking Ahead
The Storm play next on Saturday at 4 p.m. when they host #3 Ashland for Senior Night. Ashland lost their opening game to #7 Grand Valley State and since have dominated their foes, boasting a 11-0-1 record since. Their 9-0-1 conference record places them at the top of the G-MAC standings. After Ashland, Tiffin comes to town on Halloween for another G-MAC competition. The Dragons have not met expectations this year, currently posting a 1-10-2 record. Their lone win however game against Thomas More whereas the Storm are still looking for their first conference win, putting them one spot ahead of us in conference standings.
