MENTOR, Ohio -- The Lake Erie men's soccer team hosted the Northwood University Timberwolves today at Mentor High School in another Great Midwest matchup. Despite a strong performance by the Storm, they were unable to hold off the Timberwolves comeback and fell 2-1. The loss brings their record to 7-6-1 on the year and 6-4 in G-MAC play.
Game Recap
Coming into today's game, the Timberwolves had been far from good but they hung in with the Storm in the first half. Lake Erie got off five shots in the half compared to Northwood's three and although it took them a while to get one in, Lake Erie finally got on the board thanks to
Luke Peperak who scored in the 38th minute.
In the second half, the Storm arguably played much better than in the first. They overwhelmingly controlled the ball in Northwood's territory and got off eleven shots. However, after making a goalie change to start the second, Northwood's new goalkeeper Henri Grundewald did not allow the Storm to score and recorded eight saves in the half.
In the 71st minute, Northwood finally got on the board and in the 78th, they scored once more to take the lead and hand the Storm a 2-1 loss.
Peperak led the team with five shots, all of which were on goal.
Jack Bole was right behind him with four and
Aaron Garrote had three himself.
The Matchup
Lake Erie has not fared well historically against Northwood. The loss today brings their record to 1-5-2 all-time including a 1-3-2 record in conference play.
Looking Ahead
The Storm will be back in action Saturday, October 26th at home against the Walsh Cavaliers. The game is set to kickoff at 7 p.m.
