PAINESVILLE, Ohio -- The Lake Erie volleyball team returned home and continued non-conference play against the Glenville State Pioneers. The Storm would be pushed in sets two and three before taking a straight sets victory. Lake Erie moves to 6-15 overall.

The first set would see the Storm race out to early 8-0 lead after five aces from senior
Simone Schurr, and two kills and a solo block from
Anna Lewis. The lead for Lake Erie would grow to 17-4 after two aces from senior
Brooklyn Broadway, and kills from junior
Jasmine Heyward and senior
Alexandra Matthews. The lead for the Storm built an insurmountable 22-8 lead after an ace from freshman
Cecelia Mullen, and kills from redshirt freshman

Allison Kirch. The Storm would take the first set by a score of 25-10.
The second set would see the Pioneers jump out to an early 4-1 lead after a sluggish first set. Lake Erie would halt the Glenville St. momentum by winning six consecutive points to take a 10-5 after an ace from freshman

Sadie Nawrocki, a block by Wiley and Matthews, and kills by Matthews, Wiley, and Nawrocki, each assisted by sophomore
Jenna Sayles. The Pioneers would bring the score to 10-9 after winning the next four points. The Storm would take six of the next seven points with kills from Matthews, Nawrocki, Hanken, and senior
Katelyn McMoore, and a block by Hanken and Matthews and take a 16-10 lead. Glenville St. would take the next four points to bring the score to 16-14. After exchanging points, the Pioneers would win seven of the next eight points to force extra points and to take a 25-24 lead for their first lead of the match. Kills from Hanken and McMoore would give the second set to Lake Erie by a score of 27-25.
The third set would begin with the teams exchanging points. The Storm would grab momentum by taking five of six points to take an 8-5 lead after kills from Matthews and freshman
Gabrielle Jones, a block from Lewis and Jones, and an ace from freshman
Paige Jestadt. Glenville St. would take five of the next six points to grab a 10-9 for their first lead of the set. Lake Erie would grab momentum again taking a 17-13 lead after a Lewis kill and an ace from senior
Sarah Leyden. The Storm would take the third set by a score of 25-22.
The Storm offense was led by Hanken, who led the team with eight kills. From the service line, the team would serve a season high 11 aces, five of which came from Schurr. Schurr would lead the team with 16 assists and Sayles would also add in 10. The Storm defense would see Hanken, Jones, and Wiley each have three blocks, and Schurr and Colombo, would lead the team with 7 digs, with the latter achieving a new career high.
The Matchup
With the win, Lake Erie has won three of four all time meetings against Glenville St. with the lone GSU win coming in 2022.

Lake Erie will step back into G-MAC play and head to Walsh University on Friday, October 25th at 6 p.m.
