Men's Soccer Falls In Owensboro

OWENSBORO, Kentucky -- The Lake Erie men's soccer team traveled to Owensboro, Kentucky tonight to take on the Kentucky Wesleyan Panthers in another Great Midwest matchup. The Storm fell 2-0 and they now sit at 6-5-1 on the year and 5-3 in G-MAC play.

Game Recap
The Storm came out of the gate playing aggressive. In just the first minute, a foul on Aaron Garrote set up Harry Furlong for a free kick attempt just outside the box. The shot would find the KWC goalkeeper and prevent the Storm from taking an early lead.

Lake Erie attempted just one more shot in the half and in the 33rd minute, Kentucky Wesleyan got on the board after a deep free kick by the Panthers bounced off the top crossbar and took a lucky ricochet right to Adrian Stokke who scored on a header.

In the second, the Panthers got lucky again when a deep free kick to the box took a bounce off a Panther player and was shot by Adrian Stokkes. The ball was stopped by Storm goalkeeper Jesper Johannessen but the official claimed the ball just crossed the line and therefor put the Panthers up 2-0 which they would hold onto until the end of regulation.

Furlong accounted for three of the Storm's four shot attempts and Johannessen recorded three saves in the loss.

The Matchup
The loss hands the Storm their first defeat to the Panther since 2017. They still hold the all-time series record at 5-2-1 including a perfect 3-0 at home.

Looking Ahead
Lake Erie is back in action this weekend, Saturday, October 19th when they host the Cedarville Yellow Jackets. The game will be played at Mentor High School and kickoff at approximately 4 p.m.
