PAINESVILLE, Ohio – The Lake Erie women's basketball team took on the Notre Dame College Falcons for another non-conference matchup on Saturday, January 6. Despite having the lead for the majority of the second half, the Storm would fall in the final seconds 54-56. This loss brings their record to 1-10 (0-5 G-MAC).
The first quarter got off to a slow start as both teams struggled offensively. The Falcons began to find success in the second quarter as they got up to an eight point lead. However, the Storm answered back and secured a one point lead going into half time.
Going into the third quarter, the Storm extended their lead to as much as eleven points. They had their best defensive quarter of the game as they held the Falcons to just 4-of-16 (25%) shooting. To start the fourth quarter, the Falcons scored seven straight points to close the gap, and they would eventually tie the game with 33 seconds left. The Storm would have an opportunity to score, but a steal from the Falcons with five seconds on the clock and a last second foul would lead to free throws for the Falcons with no time left. The Falcons would make the free throws, resulting in a loss for the Storm.
The Storm were led by junior Anna Ibos who had 12 points. She also had four rebounds and two steals. Sophomore transfer Ryan Elbert had a career high in rebounds with 11. She also had eight points, two assists and two blocks.
The Storm will be back in action when they travel to Cedarville, OH to battle the Cedarville Yellow Jackets for another Great Midwest Athletic Conference matchup. This game will take place on Thursday, Jan. 11. at 5:30 p.m
