OWENSBORO, Kentucky — The Lake Erie College Storm traveled to Kentucky on Thursday, January 26, for another G-MAC matchup against the Kentucky Wesleyan College Panther. After a tough battle the Storm would fall behind and lose 87-77, bringing their record to 5-13, and 3-7 in the G-MAC.
After being down just one at the break 35-36, the Storm were unable to slow down the Panthers offense who shot 57% from the field in the second half. The Panthers also were at the foul line too often tonight with many Storm players getting into foul trouble. The Panthers finished with 22 points just in free throws, 16 of those in the second half.
Lake Erie shot 29-65 from the field tonight ending with 44% as a team. They were 8-29 from deep (27%), shooting lower than their season average. The Storm finished with 13 assists, and 35 total team rebounds. They racked up five total steals as well. Lake Erie had 16 points off the bench, and had 15 second chance points tonight. The Storm went 11-13 from the foul line at 84% as a team.
The Storm had three players in double-digit scoring to end the game. Led by Jacob Plantz and his 21 points, three rebounds, one assist, and one steal, and one block in a team high 36 minutes of action. Jake Leibacher finished 6-8 from the field and 2-3 from long range, with 14 points, two rebounds, two assists, one steal, and one block. Leon Hughes added in 12 points and team highs in rebounds and steals (eight rebounds and two steals).
Lake Erie is on a two game road stint, with a final stop in Nashville on Saturday, January 27, as they take on the Trevecca Nazarene University Trojans. Tip off is at 2 PM.
