Yellow Jackets Force Tie With Men's Soccer

PAINESVILLE, Ohio -- The Lake Erie men's soccer team hosted the Cedarville University Yellow Jackets for another Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) matchup at Jack Britt Memorial Stadium. The Storm struggled to score in the contest and ultimately tied with the Yellow Jackets, 1-1.

Just like their matchup against Northwood two games ago, the Storm were in control over their opponent but were not able to get the score to reflect it. They out shot the Cedarville 15-6 (6-2 SOG) and kept possession of the ball in Yellow Jackets territory for most of the contest.

In the 75th minute, Marcos Somohano took a deep shot 25-yards out and knocked it in the bottom right corner of the net just past the reach of the Cedarville goalkeeper. This ended the scoring drought and gave the Storm a sigh of relief with 15 minutes remaining.

Unfortunately, just three minutes later in the 78th minute, a Cedarville midfielder knocked in a shot of his own to tie the game at 1-1.

Neither team would be able to score in the remaining 12 minutes, ending the game with a 1-1 tie.

The tie takes the Storm's record to 1-3-2 on the season with an 0-1-2 mark in G-MAC play. They will look for their first conference win of the season on Saturday, September 23 when they host Malone at 7 pm. In last year's lone matchup between the two teams, Lake Erie won the contest 7-0 at home on senior night.
