Storm Drop First Conference Game to the Oilers

PAINESVILLE, Ohio — The Lake Erie College Storm football team were back in action for a night game at Jack Britt Memorial Stadium on Saturday, September 16 for Military Appreciation Night. The Storm took on the Findlay Oilers, for their first conference matchup of the season. It was a tough day for the Storm, falling 45-3.

The Storm came in prepared off of last week's comeback win but it wasn't enough to stop the Oilers physical offense. It was a tale of two halves, as Lake Erie gave up only 14 total points in the second half, and all of them in the third. Lake Erie just had a tough time getting things going on the offensive side of the ball tonight. The Storm capped off the end of their third quarter with an impressive four play goal line stand from the one yardline to hold the Oilers from scoring. The defense went on to allow zero in the fourth to end their strong effort in the second half.

The Storm had a total of 52 plays with the football on Saturday, going for 126 total yards of total offense. Xeavier Bullock led the day with 15 rushing attempts that were good for 43 yards. Bullock went 9 for 21 through the air on the night for 89 yards with the longest being a 19 yard pitch and catch to Jovohn Tucker. Tucker ended the game with three catches for 38 yards. Raphael Jones Jr. added 8 carries on the night for 18 yards. While Tony Edwards finished with two receptions for 23 yards. Ian Scannell had the lone score for the Storm in the second quarter with a successful 40 yard field goal.

The defense was led by Jorge Sanchez and Ronnell Lackey. Sanchez led the way with eight total tackles, three being solo tackles, and one fumble recovery. Lackey followed close behind with seven total tackles, two solo tackles, and an assisted tackle for loss. Euvoski Cunningham, Kenyon Tomlinson, and Cameren Grodhaus each picked up five total tackles on the night. Christopher Johnson had two tackles for losses to aid the Storm.

Lake Erie moves to 1-2 on the season and 0-1 in conference play. The Storm continue conference play on Saturday, September 23, when they travel to Midland, Michigan to take on the Northwood University Timberwolves at 1:00 PM.
