MIDLAND, Michigan — The Lake Erie College Storm football team looked to get back on track when they traveled to Northwood University on Saturday, September 23, to take on the Timberwolves for another conference matchup. The Storm were unable to contain the Timberwolves falling 68-14.
Lake Erie started off hot with their first two drives resulting in touchdowns for the Storm. On the first play of action Xeavier Bullock threw a 75 yard bomb hauled in by Jovohn Tucker. With great field position on the Northwood 5 yard line, Bullock capped off the 3 play, 75 yard drive with a five yard pitch and catch to Koraun Perdue to put the Storm up 7-0. After a quick score by the Timberwolves the score was cut to 7-7 in the first quarter. Lake Erie got right back to work on their second drive with a long 17 play, 81 yard drive that took 9:24 off the clock. Bullock led the way for the Storm on the drive with 8 rushing attempts and the longest going for 22 yards. Bullock would finish the drive scoring off an eight yard scamper to the endzone. Lake Erie would end the first quarter playing spectacular football tying the game at 14-14.
The second quarter spelled trouble for the Storm with some mental breakdowns and a couple of turnovers. After forcing the Timberwolves to two, three and out drives, the mistakes would be too much for Lake Erie. With a safety and a fumble the Storm quickly gave up 26 in the second quarter. The score was 40-14 going into the half.
Lake Erie was led on offense by Xeavier Bullock. Bullock would finish the afternoon going 16 for 30 with a completion percentage of 53.3% and a QBR of 105.5. He finished with 171 yards and one passing touchdown as well as 66 yards on the ground and one rushing touchdown off of 15 attempts. Jovohn Tucker finished with 90 yards off of three catches. He finished with a 30 yard per catch average and the longest play of the game, a 75 yard reception. Tyrone Lindsey added three catches for 25 yards. Xeavier Bullock and Koraun Perdue scored the two touchdowns on the day for the Storm.
On defense, Jorge Sanchez led the way for the Storm with 10 total tackles, seven solo, and one tackle for loss. Cameron Grodhaus had six total tackles, four being solo. Joshua Carter also ended the day with six total tackles and three being solo. Lake Erie was able to hold the Timberwolves to a zero point fourth quarter showing no signs of giving up.
Lake Erie moves to 1-3 on the season and 0-2 in conference play. The Storm are back in action at home next Saturday, September 30, as they take on the Walsh University Cavaliers at Jack Britt Memorial Stadium. Kickoff at 6 PM.
