TIFFIN, Ohio — The Lake Erie women's lacrosse team traveled to Tiffin University to play in their final road game of the regular season. The Storm dominated offensively with 37 shots versus the Dragons' 20. Lake Erie took their first conference win with a score of 14-7. They improve to a 1-6 conference record and are 4-9 overall.
Lake Erie started off the first quarter in control after a free position goal from junior Cassidy Bourne, only a minute into the game. Sophomore Allie Smith was quick to follow, with another goal soon after assisted by freshman Madelyn Goodrich. Graduate student Cynthia Saxby then scored her first goal of the night from Goodrich, followed by Bourne's second goal, unassisted. The Storm took a 4-0 lead after the first five minutes of the game. The Dragons responded with a goal, to which the Storm answered with two more. Goodrich scored her first of the night from junior Emma Rhoades, and Bourne scored her third. Tiffin was able to get two more past the Storm, as the first quarter ended with Lake Erie up 6-3.
Lake Erie scored three more goals in the second quarter. Two from Saxby (one assisted by sophomore Erin Snyder) and one from Smith. The Storm held a 9-3 lead going into the second half of the game.
Smith scored two more goals going into the third quarter, one assisted by Snyder. Goodrich scored her second goal soon after, furthering the lead. The Dragons snuck a goal in toward the end of the third, but Smith had a quick reply with another goal from Bourne to end the third.
Holding a 13-4 lead into the final quarter, Tiffin combatted with two goals to start. Snyder scored in response to bring the Storm to a 14-6 lead. The Dragons found one more goal, but the clock ran out giving Lake Erie the 14-7 conference win.
Smith finished the night with a career high of five goals. Smith and Saxby both picked up four ground balls, followed by junior Sydney Jekutis and Goodrich with three. Goodrich and Snyder each recorded two assists.
Freshman Ainsley Sutter was in the goal for the Storm for all four quarters. Sutter finished with six saves.
Lake Erie returns to their home field for their final game of the regular season. The Storm will host the Findlay Oilers on Sunday, April 30th for their last conference match at 12:00 PM.
