PAINESVILLE, Ohio — The Lake Erie women's lacrosse team concluded their 2023 season at home against the Findlay Oilers. Lake Erie was unable to stop the Oilers' offense, with the game ending in Findlay's favor. The Storm finish with a 1-7 conference record and a 4-10 overall record.
The Oilers were quick to take control of the game, scoring six in the first period. The Storm fought back in the second with two goals from junior Emma Rhoades, and one from junior Cassidy Bourne. However, Findlay continued to further their lead to 17-3 into the final period. Junior Sydney Jekutis scored a free position goal in final efforts for the Storm.
Sophomore Corinne Shimek and sophomore Allie Smith both picked up three ground balls each.
Freshman Ainsley Sutter started in the goal for the Storm, recording two saves. Freshman Avery Artino took over the net for the second half, tallying five saves.
Coaching
Interim Head Coach Gabby Jessup led the Storm for her first season at Lake Erie. Coach Jessup recorded four collegiate wins for the year.
Season Wrap-Up
Bourne led the Storm in goals scored for the season, finishing with 20. Freshman Madelyn Goodrich was right behind with 19 goals. __ Shannon Smith led the team in ground balls with 29, followed by Jekutis with 24. Sutter finished the season with 62 saves in the net. Arinto finished with 23 saves.
